VO Atlanta just wrapped up and wow what a boost. What a fantastic experience, but now what? In this video, Anne looks at the benefits of a conference, and how to capitalize on that post-conference high.
Read on for post-conference tips, experiences, and why I’m going to go back next year...
I just got back from VO Atlanta 2023 and I am still riding the high, so I thought that I would share some of my experiences and tips and why I’m going to go back next year. First of all, it was an incredibly large conference. The very first thing that I noticed about this conference is the energy. And I think it’s the energy of face-to-face, being there, with your colleagues. Being there with people who you may have never met. People that maybe you haven’t seen in a very long time. And just that energy itself was really such a wonderful, inspiring, motivating feeling, to really kick off a conference where you’re excited about what it is that you do, you’re excited about the industry, and you’re excited to learn about how you can move forward in the industry. So first, of all, I’m going to say, the energy was prevalent throughout the weekend. Myself, I actually taught a couple of classes, I led a breakout session, and I also moderated a panel, and I was on a panel. So, I was pretty busy. Oh yeah, and I also judged a contest, the ultimate VO Survivor Content.
So, I was pretty busy, but I tell you, in between those times when I wasn’t actually presenting or moderating on a panel, I was networking. And that networking started from the early hours of the morning from when you went to get coffee, to all the way through dinner and beyond. And I will say there was one night when I was exhausted, so I did go to bed a little bit early, but, in between it was so wonderful to catch up with people, and really, again, feel the energy, but also get tips and tricks and see how people were doing, how they’re progressing, see how they’re moving forward in their journey of VO, and the journey of their VO business. While you are finished with the conference, you may not be finished with the energy that you got from the conference. Now is the time for you to take that energy and really move on that energy, and take action. So if you took a bunch of notes, or you recorded, whatever you did, make sure that you are acting upon all of the goals, and all of those things that you said you wanted to do once you finished with the conference, or, you’re going to put forth in action, to move your business forward. This is the time to do it. Not five weeks from now when maybe the energy, you know, you’ve lost the energy and got back into the grind of what you’ve been doing regularly in your business. So really ride that high, ride that motivation, ride that inspiration, to tackle the things that you wrote down.
And also make sure that you keep those connections open. With people that you met for the first time, or people that you re-connected with. Great time to send a follow-up email, send a follow-up text. Make it a point to maybe revisit these people, revisit these connections, more than once, more than just one time after the conference. Keep those connections open, keep those ideas flowing, and the motivation happening. Everybody says this, it is the most amazing community out there, the voiceover community. So generous, so helpful, so wonderful, so knowledgeable. And I was really really reminded of that yet again. And especially after all of this time that we’ve been away, and we really haven’t seen each other. So I think that maybe this conference was really the first conference where everybody came back together again, and we cemented those feelings. That comradery, that motivation, and inspiration to help each other along, make referrals, find new coaches, find new agents, and really continue along the momentum of the conference.
Am I going to go back next year? And I’ll be honest with you, I was thinking, “Oh gosh, I’ve been doing this conference for ten years, and maybe I could be done with that conference”, but after going this last year or after going these last couple of weeks, I am ready to come back year after year after year just to feed off that amazing energy of that community.
Guys, go to a VO conference. It doesn’t have to be a big one, but feed off the energy of your colleagues that you may or may not have ever met in real life or real-time. So, great experience.
