Pursue the Passion You’ve Been Putting Off

Abstract face emerges from an open book on a black background. Text: The Myth Of You - Answering the Call: Pursuing Passions and Dreams.

What Dream Are You Still Waiting to Say Yes To?

We all have a dream—that creative spark, that calling, that thing we think about late at night or on the commute home. But instead of chasing it, we often delay, deflect, or deny it entirely. Why? Because we’ve been told that pursuing our passion is risky, unrealistic, or indulgent. We believe the myths that say we need to be practical or choose the safe path. In this episode, we explore how fear, doubt, and cultural expectations can keep us from following what we love—and what changes when we finally do.

Your passion doesn’t disappear when you ignore it—it just waits for you to believe you’re worthy of pursuing it...

In this episode: Sean and Anne challenge the myth that those who can't do, teach, and emphasize the importance of passionate and dedicated teachers. They discuss the importance of recognizing and answering the call to pursue one's passions and dreams and share personal stories and insights about refusing the call, false calls, and the role of fear, insecurity, and money in decision-making.

The Myth That Passion Isn’t a “Real” Path

There’s a myth that pursuing your passion is reckless. That it only counts if it’s difficult, competitive, or prestigious. So we delay the things we love in exchange for careers that feel respectable. But passion isn’t less valuable because it brings you joy. You don’t need to prove your worth through exhaustion or sacrifice. Real success is built when you align your values, talents, and energy—and allow joy to be part of the equation.

Most people don’t reject their passions because they don’t care. They reject them because of fear. Fear of failure. Fear of not being enough. Fear that someone else is already doing it better. We’re told we need more experience, more training, more time. But fear disguised as logic is still fear. And the longer we wait, the easier it becomes to accept a life that’s “fine” instead of one that’s fulfilling.

Saying Yes Doesn’t Mean Giving Up Your Regular Life

Choosing your passion doesn’t require quitting your job or burning everything down. It means taking the first step toward something that feels real. That might look like learning, building, creating, or simply giving yourself space to explore what lights you up. The truth is, passion often grows in the margins—if you let it. What matters is that you stop ignoring it.

Your passion doesn’t need permission. It needs you to stop waiting and start believing you’re allowed to follow it.
Blue light trails spell "PASSION" on a dark street, with glowing trees and streetlights in the background, creating a vibrant night scene.

The Power of Purposeful Discipline

We often think that passion should be effortless, but that’s another myth. Passion requires discipline. It asks you to show up, even when it’s hard. It requires focus, patience, and consistency. When you combine the thing you love with the discipline to get better at it, something powerful happens. You don’t just dream about what’s possible—you start to live it.

When You Pursue Passion, You Become the Person You Were Waiting For

Pursuing your dream changes more than your path—it changes your identity. You go from someone who wishes to someone who acts. You begin to trust your instincts, strengthen your skills, and inspire others simply by being in alignment. Following your passion teaches you how to lead from within. And it’s not just about success—it’s about self-respect.

The Dream Is Still Waiting—Are You Ready?

You already know what you want. Even if you’ve buried it. Even if you’ve told yourself it’s too late. The dream is still there, waiting for you to listen. The stories you’ve believed about not being ready, not being worthy, or not being practical—they’re just myths. And you have the power to rewrite them. You don’t have to wait for the perfect time. You just have to say yes.
