Take control of your VO destiny!

Anyone who knows me…. knows that I am a firm believer in goal setting each year for your VO business. I started off a few years back figuring out what I wanted to achieve, jotting it down, and then doing it. And guess what – it worked! And I can honestly say that each year I have taken the time to do this, I have achieved more and more success! Now I know so many people who are masters at procrastination – I’m here to tell you to just do it already! Remember the golden rule – there are no right or wrong ways to write your goals – just write down things that have meaning to you and meaning for your business! According to Lynsay Swinton from Management for the Rest of Us, goals should be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time Bound. With that in mind, I have a specific goal example that I would like to share that concerns YOU! Here goes:

My Goal: To produce a marketable audio production of an original work showcasing the talent of the VO Peeps.

And here are my answers to the questions:
Specific? Yes it is specific to the goal of growing the exposure and marketability of the VO Peeps

Measurable? Yes – Here are the possibilities: Unsatisfactory: Not completed! Could be better: Get a contact to write original work, finish writing, record in local studio, publish and market for sale. Minimal Sales. Expected: finish all original work and recording. Market and sell – profits support additional educational benefits for VO Peeps members. Distinguished: everything as “Expected” in addition to a portion of the profits go to support a charitable organization, exposure for group and individual members increases their respective VO businesses.

Achievable? YES – with the amount of talent within this group – anything is possible!

Relevant? Yes, this will force us to increase our network connections and enhance our VO skills to create a successful and marketable product that can bring revenue to the group.

Time Bound? Yes, I’d love to get something in time for the 2013 Holidays – C’mon everyone else does it – I KNOW we can! Steps to achieve this will be further broken down in my Goal worksheet.

So who’s with me? This is going to require a group effort and I’m counting on you to help make this a success! If you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to email me at anne@vopeeps.com. I’ve also created a customized VO Peeps Goal worksheet that you can download and use for your goals at https://anneganguzza.com/downloads/2013-Goal-Sheet.pdf!

Here’s to a prosperous 2013 filled with growth and success! Love to my Peeps!

Get in the Spirit of Giving with The Voxy Ladies and Prime Time Voices for Children!

Hey Peeps!
As the holidays draw near, I find myself getting increasingly excited to celebrate the season and spend some quality time with my loved ones.  To me, that’s what it’s really all about, and it’s especially meaningful after battling some significant health issues this year.  I remember all too well at this time last year going from doctor to doctor, and spending lots of time in the hospital and doctor’s offices. Not fun for me, but can you imagine what it must be like for a child to have to be stuck in the hospital for the holidays?

Well you can help to put a smile on a child’s face this holiday season by contributing to the 12 Days of Voxmas, sponsored by none other than the gorgeous and talented Voxy Ladies and Prime Time Voices for Children.    But hurry – you only have a few more days!  By simply purchasing your copy of the Prime Time Voices for Children’s album “Twas the Night Before Christmas and other Classic Children’s Stories” and forwarding your receipt to the Voxy Ladies, you’ll be entered to win in an online raffle benefiting the Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA.

I downloaded my copy – and I must say that the album is absolutely amazing, and I am thoroughly enjoying it!  I am *so* in the Holiday Spirit after listening to all of that incredible talent!  Whoa!  And don’t forget to take a look at the long list of incredible raffle prizes that you have a chance to win with your raffle entry!

And I gotta say, I have a whole ‘lotta love for those Voxy Ladies and all of the hard work they have been doing all year to benefit a pretty big list of charitable organizations.  Congratulations and Thank You ladies  – on behalf of the VO Peeps – your beauty truly is inside and out! ♥

Help spread the Holiday cheer this season – and put a smile on a child’s face!  Visit  the 12 Days of Voxmas for all the details and How to Enter!

VO Peeps and MCA-I Donate $5,000!

Nov 20, 2012: Thanks to the generosity of the media community, The Sandra Swingler Fund, a special project of the VO Peeps MCA-I Career Scholarship Fund,  has been able to raise $5,

000 to help the family of an OC media professional get through an unusually difficult time.

Sandra Swingler, a young mother and wife of VO artist, Andrew Swingler, lost her battle with brain cancer early in the summer of 2012. VO Peeps founder, Anne Ganguzza, immediately swung the VO community into action. By September, the Sandra Swingler Fund had raised $5,000 to donate to the family which includes Sandra’s two little girls. “The generosity of the Voice-Over community to support one of our own—as well as all the other media professionals who joined us—has been just amazing,” said Ganguzza.

MCA-I’s, Brian Page, himself a VO Peep, was pleased that the LA/Orange County Chapter of the organization was part of it. “This is one of the best ways MCA-I uses our 501c3 charity status. Since January of this year we’ve been the fiscal sponsor of the VO Peeps MCAI Career Scholarship Fund. Thanks to the dedication of Anne Ganguzza, the fund has helped a lot of people. The stories of recipients are all heartwarming,” he explained, “ but helping a whole family through such a devastating time was extremely gratifying. Everyone who donated to the fund should be very proud.”

There were a lot of donors, explained Ganguzza, “Most of the $5,000 came in gifts averaging around $25. Of course, we are very thankful for those who could donate larger amounts but to raise $5,000 with so many small donations says that participation was high…and that every gift makes a difference, no matter the size!”

The VO Peeps MCAI Career Scholarship Fund raised money for the Swingler family through a wide variety of methods; via online; by holding raffles; passing the hat at meetings; auctioning in-kind donations on E-Bay and by personal requests between fellow professionals.

The Fund was established in January of 2012 with the LA/OC Chapter of MCA-I as a fiscal sponsor and partner and was able to award its first scholarship in June of the same year. Including the Sandra Swingler Fund the charity was able to raise and distribute over $7,500 by the end of the year! Many of the top names in the creative talent industry contributed in-kind services that raised money. For example, James R. Alburger & Penny Abshire, from the Voice Acting Academy and Executive Producers for Voice 2012, donated full scholarships to the Voice 2012 conference this year.   Dave Fennoy, the Voice Of Hulu offered studio time and Marc Cashman donated Audition Aid sessions.  David H. Lawrence XVII from vo2gogo.com donated 3 day long intensive workshops and Deb Munro donated coaching time, as well as her Voices at Home workshop and Voice Biz Handbook.

The VO Peeps MCAI Career Scholarship Fund is now taking contributions for 2013 Education Scholarships. To donate online using PayPal go to http://blog.vopeeps.com/p/donate-scholarship-fund.html or mail a check to:

VO Peeps Survivor Bracelets!

The new VO Peeps Survivor Bracelets are Stylish  and can help you survive whatever life (or your VO Career!) throws at you – they are a symbol of strength, honor, and survival – Just like a VO Peep!

Paracord, or Parachute Cord Bracelets, have been used by the military for decades. Because of the strength of the cord (550 lb. rated) you can use them for anything, especially anything for survival.  Just break the melt-points, and unravel the braid, and use it for what you need to.

Inside each cord, there are 7 thin nylon strands that can be used for various things…. like fishing line, stitching up a wound, tie-downs, lashing, etc, etc, etc….

So, use it as a whole, or take the guts out and use them instead…either way, its all about survival.

The particular braid, or weave, on your VO Peeps Survivor Bracelet, is called the cobra braid.  Each bracelet  has approximately 9 feet of cord(8.5 – 9 feet) and flat buckles…so that makes them reversible!

They are available in 3 color combinations: VO Peeps Blue & Black, VO Peeps Blue & White, and VO Peeps Blue and Yellow – and both Men’s (8.75″) and Women’s (7.75″) Sizes.  Order yours today – Only $12 – includes shipping (domestic US only, International rates may be higher)

I had the good fortune of meeting Andrew Swingler at one of my VO Peeps meetups last year.  I was immediately drawn to his quick wit, tech savvy, and lovely British accent.  In November of last year, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and soon found out that Andrew’s wife Sandra had been diagnosed with brain cancer at just around the same time.  I immediately felt a kinship and a connection with her – there was so much that we could talk about.  The first time I met Sandra, she greeted me with a smile and a hug which immediately warmed my heart.  Although she had some trouble speaking due to a tumor near her throat at the time,  we started talking and didn’t stop for a breath for the next hour.  I will cherish our first visit forever – We talked as though we had known each other all our lives.  We traded war stories about our diagnosis and our course of treatment – we talked about our fears about this disease and our hopeful outlooks for the future.  We spoke about tumors and chemo and radiation, and we spoke about our families and how they were coping.  I met her two gorgeous daughters and saw a beautiful combination of both Andrew and Sandra in their faces and personalities – those girls simply lit up the room.

Although this was the first time she had ever met me, Sandra was so incredibly warm and loving, right from the start.  It was hard not to fall in love with her – Andrew – I GET IT!   She also had a wonderful sense of humor, and I think both our faces hurt from smiling so much that first visit!  For the next few months, our husbands, who had started independent facebook “Health Update” groups on our behalf, posted information and updates on our progress throughout our treatments, and I followed Sandra’s progress daily.  It became a life line for me – my connection to Sandra  – whether she was in the hospital or at home.  We were able to post messages of hope to one another, and Sandra was always so wonderfully supportive and positive for me, always giving of herself and happily championing me and my successes.

Sandra’s path was much different from mine, and I will admit that I struggled my own questions of “why” and the seeming unfairness of it all.   Throughout her journey, she remained an amazing pillar of strength, giving of herself in the most unselfish of ways, and just plain inspiring me with her beautiful soul.  When I last visited her, she was not awake, but I have no doubt that she heard and felt me.  Truly, she was an angel who walked this earth.  She fulfilled a most purposeful life, filled with love and honor, and I will be forever grateful that I was indeed BLESSED to know her and spend time with her.  She was a precious gift to all of us, and her spirit continues to inspire me and make me smile.  She has helped me to become a better person, and I hope to be able to continue to help others as she has inspired me to do.

Thank you Sandra, for everything – and for blessing me with so many gifts. I love you, and miss you dearly.

I sit here at my computer and it is hard to see through my tears.  It is so difficult to put into words, but I must give back to this family that has given me so much, a family that I truly have come to love and cherish.  If you can, please find it in your heart and help this family by donating to my VO Peeps fund at  http://blog.vopeeps.com/2012/06/in-memoriam-sandra-swingler-fundraising.html, or by selecting the yellow Donate button to the right.  100% of the proceeds for the next 3 months will be given to help support Andrew and his beautiful girls.

Thank you and God Bless!
Anne

Basking in the Afterglow of VOICE 2012

Welcome to Voice 2012
Hey Peeps!  WOW.  I just got back from an amazing VOICE 2012 experience, and have to say that I am still on an incredible high!  So many happy and memorable moments to cherish – seeing wonderful friends again and meeting new ones – and I am just now starting to catch up on some much needed sleep!

Truth be told, some of the most meaningful moments of my VOICE 2012 journey started long before the conference actually began in June.  Track back to our Feb 18 meetup with our guests James Alburger and Penny Abshire.  Special people indeed – and two of the most gracious and kind people I have ever met.  Their generosity in donating the first VIP tickets to VOICE 2012 enabled us to jumpstart our VO Peeps Career Education Scholarship Fund, and helped us to truly help others in the VO industry, and make dreams come true!  More generous donations followed – Thank you to Deb Munro from Deb’s Voice and Nancy Wolfson from Braintracks Audio,  as well contributions from a number of anonymous donors – once again reaffirming my belief that our VO community is one of the most caring and generous communities –  second to none!  All in all, we were able to award a total of three (YES THREE) scholarships to VOICE 2012 – and BOY does that ever feel GOOD!  We are so very grateful to everyone in the community for helping us to make this happen!

With VIP Scholarship Winner Tina Wilson

Scholarship winner Tina Wilson recaps her experience at VOICE 2012, “As a winner of the VO Peeps scholarship, I cannot tell you or even put in to words how wonderful this week has been. It was wonderful to be able to network with so many great people and to receive a wealth of information and new ideas from the seminars at the same time.”

“This convention was so worth attending, and I was so glad to be able to be a part of  it. I now feel that I have the tools to be able to begin marketing the way I want to, and I also know that if I have questions, that I can either email or sit down with anyone in the VO community to get their input. I love the way this whole community is so giving to one another. It’s very rare, but a wonderful thing to see.”

“Thanks to VO Peeps and Penny and James and to all of the contributors, for one fantastic week of networking and one educational event after another!”

With Scholarship Winners Griffin Burns and Michelle Rojas

Scholarship Winner Michelle Rojas says, “VOICE 2012 was amazing! I learned a lot and I have a much better action plan to further my voice over career.”

“From just the sessions I went to, I learned about microphones, audio processing, technique, better business practices, and how to get things done. The keynotes were truly star studded with talents like Pat Fraley, Marc Cashman, Bill Farmer, and Crispin Freeman, with plenty of knowledge to share. I was able to see real masters in action and explain their own processes. I’m looking forward to hearing the audio from the other panels.”

“The sessions were only part of what made VOICE 2012 so great. I came to the conference by myself, knowing only Anne and and a couple presenters I had as coaches previously. I was afraid I’d have to spend the week alone. This was quickly remedied by the voice over community. I met a ton of talented people and made some real friends during my stay. I ended up being invited to so many other events and activities, I hardly had the time to sleep!”

“I can’t express well enough how much of an impact this event had on me. I am so thankful that I had the chance to attend!”

Griffin Burns talks about his experience, “If I was asked to summarize VOICE 2012 in one word I would say “motivational”.  It’s not every day that one is surrounded by hundreds of folks that share your passion.  And it’s not every day that one has access to such a wealth of information from the industry’s leading talents/ teachers.   Highlights for me include realizing that I didn’t know nearly as much about social media marketing as I thought I did, testing out some very nice Sennheiser microphones, and of course, meeting other aspiring and professional voice talents.  You can count me in for next year! ”

As for me, I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am to be able to be a part of such an amazing and giving community – to be able to help out in any way is so very special to me, and I am honored that you have allowed me that opportunity.  Thank You! Can’t wait for VOICE 2014!
